Every passing day, the Great Barrier Reef along with other large reefs are getting closer to extinction. Coral reefs are very fragile ecosystems that can be affected by very little activity. The Great Barrier Reef stretches 1600 miles over the Northeast coast of Australia. It is known as one of the biggest living organism and can be seen from outer space. The tourism industry generates 3.41 billion dollars and attracts 1.6 million people a year. Most of the damage being done onto the reef is caused by human activity. About one-fifth of the reef has been destroyed or has not yet recovered. Tourism, pesticides, global warming along with other things that seem to have no direct affect on the reef, are actually catalysts causing the reef to rapidly die. The reef can't repair itself as quick as it is being destroyed with the conditions it faces as of now. Once the reef is gone we will possibly face a global crisis that we won't be able to solve.
