Marketing to me used to mean the method of selling a product. The way a company advertised that product also was categorized as marketing to me. After further research from textbook materials and the University of Phoenix's online library, the definition of marketing is much more than just selling a product. Analysis and critical thinking must be put into a marketing plan. This paper will illustrate the importance of marketing in an organizational structure and will also include the definitions from two other reliable sources in the way marketing is viewed to them. Examples from the business world will also be included to help with the explanation of the marketing process. The definition of marketing as defined by the American Marketing Association is "an organizational function and set of processes which creates communicating and delivery value to customers" (American Marketing Association, 2008).
