During 1865 to 1914 immigrants had a staggering impact on America that forever changed her. Over the years, millions and millions of immigrants came to America to better their lives by finding jobs and living in America; however, the immigrants did not know that they would be the target for social, economic, and political injustice. Socially, the immigrant changed America by creating a friction between themselves and white people. During the Gilded Age, the white men did not care for and in most cases didn't like the immigrant coming to America with his own culture, beliefs, and customs. White men wanted to reform the immigrant, or "Americanize" him. The school systems would try to reform the children by teaching them to speak English and praying with them. The problem was that the parents of these children did not want their children praying the school systems Protestant prayers. Therefore the private Catholic schools were created so that the Catholics could be educated together without compromising their religious beliefs.
