Virtue Ethics Virtue ethics is a moral theory that bases its standard of morality on the character of moral beings. This moral theory aims to provide a plausible and effective method for discerning which character traits in moral beings are virtuous, and therefore desirable, and which are not. The Greek philosopher Aristotle, who first completely described what this theory entails, expounded upon how to attain these desirable traits, also described as moral virtues. He stresses the habituation of the moral virtues and also the importance of moderation between excessiveness and deficiency acting in accordance with the virtues. To achieve the status of a virtuous and morally sound being, humans must live what Aristotle calls "the good life," which is the culmination of virtue ethics. To understand more profoundly the theory of virtue ethics, it is important to decipher the language that Aristotle and the theory itself employs.
