Thousands of Jews died throughout Hitler's reign, leaving few people alive to tell their story. Elie Wiesel was one of the many who survived. only a teenager when he was taken from home and sent to the concentration camps with his family. He tells his story in the touching book Night, which shows the horrors of the Holocaust. Though separated from his mother and sister forever, Elie remains with his father through hell. Through the freezing running drills, dangerous train rides, and harsh nights in the hospital, Elie's relationship with his father strengthens throughout the book. As the Russian move in on the concentration camps Elie, his father, and thousands of Jews must evacuate headed for another concentration camp. With little food in their stomachs they must endure a long journey through a harsh snow storm. "My father's presence was the only thing that stopped me... He was running at my side, out of breath, at the end of his strength, at his wit's end. I had no right to let myself die. What would he do without me? I was his only support." (82).
