Over the past decade or more, a debate has arisen; whether global warming is real or not. This debate is over, global warming is real. Scientists from around the world have concluded so, including Tim Barnett of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. Barnett says "the debate over whether or not there is a global warming signal is over, at least for rational people."(Wired, 2005) With this conclusion we can now move forward to discussion of the possible effects and future outcomes of climate change. Elizabeth Kolbert, author of Field Notes from a Catastrophe, feels that the future effects of climate change are going to be so severe that she feels that they can be defined as a "catastrophe." Kolbert offers specific accounts of where global warming is already having a severe effect on regional climates. From each of these accounts she gives substantial and convincing evidence supporting climate change. Her most convincing evidence is that of rising CO2 levels.
