According to Dictionary.com, a victim is "a person who suffers from a destructive or injurious action or agency." This is exactly what David Pelzer was in his autobiographical account, A Child Called "It." It takes place in Daly City, California and is about David Pelzer's fight for survival against his alcoholic mother's physical and psychological abuse as a child. He is constantly striving finding new ways to try and "win" in order to stay alive. Pelzer's story begins with him narrating the last time his mother beat him before finally being rescued for not completing his chores. She catches him with his hands out of the soapy dish water and hits him repeatedly until he's on the hard kitchen floor crying. Finally, his mother leaves the kitchen and he tells himself that she can beat him but all he wants is food. He does receive it but only the remains of his brother's breakfast: a few soggy Lucky Charms. He then describes his journey to school. His mother tells him to say he ran into a door if anyone asks about his injuries. He says her eyes are......
