The Epic of Gilgamesh tells an ancient tale of a king: two-thirds god and one-third man. Gilgamesh resides as the strict ruler of the Uruk city and holds tyranny over his people. The Epic describes Gilgamesh's journey to find friends, immortality, and truth. Set it ancient Mesopotamia, the tale gives accounts of what life was like during the Bronze Age. The Epic of Gilgamesh gives evidence to the growth of urbanism, a king's need of validation from religious leaders, and the use of cuneiform to recount myths in Bronze Age Mesopotamia. The Epic of Gilgamesh exposes the crucial component of urbanization in Mesopotamia. As the human population grew, the Neolithic period villages grew into newly developed city-states. The Epic describes how Gilgamesh was the ruler of the massive city of Uruk. Uruk was found to be six square kilometers and known as one of the largest ancient cities.
