As a history major, I study a lot of so-called "revolutionaries." These people are mostly men who led massive armies and/or powerful governments. These men took over countries and created empires. And, while I absolutely appreciate their accomplishments, I don't feel as if they coincide with my definition of a revolutionary. I think it takes many small, yet important characteristics to fully embody this word. Independence, strength, forward thinking, and most of all- compassion are what make up my revolutionary. Assata Shakur was all these things and more. JoAnne Chesimard, or Assata Shakur, lived a life of struggles. No matter how difficult her struggles might have been, she kept pushing through with a positive attitude. In the 1960s and 1970s, revolution was a way of life.
