Texting while driving has recently become a social issue. Studies have shown that 46 percent of drivers ages 16-27 admit to texting while driving and just 14 percent of those age 28-44 admit to texting while drive. Many people have acknowledged the dangers, however, their respond to the situation at hand is pure ignorance. This collective behavior is the most hazardous distraction in today society. Teenagers are said to be the most common to text while driving they are at a higher risk. This brief essay will examine this issue through the lens of sociology. The purpose of sociology is the scientific study of human society and human group behavior. In this essay I will discuss the ban on texting while driving, the death rate, and state laws. Many states in America have put a ban on texting while driving. A bill introduced in July 2009 in the Senate would require all states to impose a ban on texting while driving; 19 states (including, most recently, Illinois, on Aug. 6 2009) and the District of Columbia have passed such a ban.
