Daft defines management as a distinct function, responsible for directing and coordinating other parts of the organization. In my opinion the most critical issue currently facing management within the military organization is the ineffectiveness of leadership. I believe that without effective leaders an organization cannot be effectively managed. In the military the officers are the leaders and managers of the organizations. I served in the Air Force for ten years and within that timeframe I experienced many different types of leadership qualities, good and bad. In my past experience I believe that lack of knowledge and inadequate training make some leaders within the military incompetent of effectively managing their organizations. Many leaders have egos because of their titles, such as commander, flight commander, section chief, etc, and not take the time to learn the technical aspects of the organization.
