Foundations of Psychology Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Psychology is the study of human nature. It is the study of how humans react to changes, how they react to their environment, and to those around them (Boring, 1948). Since psychology became a recognized science there have been many different theories that have grown and evolved. Some of these theories would include structuralism, functionalism, behaviorism, psychoanalysis, and humanism. We will talk a little bit about each of these theories and what they believe in. Structuralism was the very first school of psychology and it focused mainly on breaking down the mental process into the most basic of components (Wagner, 2009). Wilhelm Wundt and Edward Titchener were two of the structuralist thinkers. The most difficult part of structuralism would be that the structures needed are not based on concrete or physical aspects. They are instead based on cultural realities, rather than those of a biological nature (Mark Glazer, 1996).
