Despite such absurd accusations and rumors, feminists are passionate humanitarians that are invested in pursuing the continual progress of equality for all genders: men, women, and even transgendered people. Almost two and a half centuries ago, Thomas Jefferson drafted The Declaration of Independence. Within this revolutionary proclamation, the profound words, "Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness," have been the fundamental premises of American democracy. This oath, recognizing each American's inalienable rights regardless of gender, ethnicity and race, sexuality, age, or social class has provided the impetus for feminism.
