Dear Scholarship Committee: I grew up in a small town in Vietnam. My father was a disabled soldier from the Vietnam War who could not find a job to support his family. Day by day, my mother had to struggle for our survival with little money she earned from working as a road constructor. In 2001, I married a Vietnamese-American man and came to the United States to live with my husband with literally no English. Since my arrival, living in America has been a challenge �" first the culture shock, second the loneliness. The feeling of homesickness made me remember how hard it was during my childhood. Those nights going to bed being hungry and cold in winter time, I often wished for just a full meal and a warm coat. This memory of the difficult time impacted my life and strengthened my goal �"earning a degree in college. In the fall of 2002, I was so excited to be accepted to Quinsigamond Community College.
