The novella Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, was set in the early 1900s, and is focused on migrant workers and their lifestyle. George Milton is the story's main protagonist. Steinbeck describes George as being "small with sharp features" (Steinbeck 2). George, like the other men in the this story, is a migrant worker; however, his dream of one day owning a small place and "living off the fat of the land" (Steinbeck 5) and his responsibility for his companion Lennie set him apart from the rest. Steinbeck uses various emotions to describe George Milton. He shows him as sometimes angry and sometimes understanding but always responsible and mature. George displays anger frequently throughout the novella; mainly because he gets frustrated with Lennie over things he does without thinking. Lennie is mentally handicapped and George's traveling companion.
