There has been much debate on if using social networking sites such as Facebook or Myspace to conduct a background check for a Job interview. This type of background check could be done to a lot of job applicants considering myspace boasts over 95 million registered users and Facebook not far behind with 75 million. This method has many flaws and is not a good way to find out information about a possible employee. Ethically this is invasion of someone's "personal space", even though you're posting the information online, it's not something you just throw out openly into public. Although there are no laws that can stop an employer from doing this type of background check, there are some issues that must be addressed and followed when checking these sites for any information on a possible employee. If you were the employer and were conducting a background check on someone and found out they have a disability and didn't hire them because of this, which would be illegal.
