The trials and tribulations encountered by the Israelites on their quest to the promise land grew their faith in God and they were obedient to his word. Because of their obedience, the Israelites were able to establish cities and villages and live a very productive lifestyle. The descendants of the exodus generation find themselves in violation of God's covenant due to their infatuation about the Canaanite's religion practices (Winbush, 2006). The Israelites after the death of Joshua did not have an allegiance to God and their behavior was one of disobedience to God as they worshipped other gods (Bible study, 2009). God became angry with the Israelites and lifted his providential protection from them by allowing their enemies to invade and punish them (Judges 2:14 NIV). The people of Israel are powerless to fight off their enemies. God is the only help for them to be rid of their enemies and He makes the choice to empower judges to provide leadership to the Israelites however when a judge pass away, the sequel starts again (Bible study, 2009).
