Every child must grow up. Throughout their teenage years, many children experiment with new clothes and unfortunate haircuts, listen to alternative music and focus on pop culture idols as their role models. But what happens if children are not allowed to experiment with these varying ideas and personal styles- if they are not allowed to figure out who they are or find their true selves? What if the government restricted everything you listened to, wore, and even thought, but your parents defied these rules in their own home? In Marjane Satrapi's 2007 autobiographical graphic novel Persepolis, the author describes her own coming-of-age in the turmoil of revolutionary Iran in the late 1970's and early 1980's. The images in Persepolis, especially on page 131, show how Marjane's adolescence was affected by the Islamic Revolution in both negative and positive ways. The Islamic Revolution negatively affected Marji by restricting her personal freedoms, showing her unnecessary violence and harming her family. The images on page 131 detail Marji's posters of the Western music stars Kim Wild......
