History of Psychology Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Philosophers that historically relate to the beginnings of psychology as a formal discipline. Aristotle, Plato, is credited with developing the doctrine of idealism, Socrates, made the statement that one should "know thy self", it is a cornerstone for psychology 2400 years later, and Descartes were great minds of their time, and contributed greatly to the concepts of thought and reasoning. Descartes was one of the first philosophers that appeared on the scene towards the end the Renaissance. This was the time of Leonardo Da Vinci, who's area of knowledge both covered the arts and the sciences. Also another mind to consider in the early contributors to psychology would have been Sir Frances Bacon. Bacon was a strong proponent of the inductive approach to science. Observing nature systematically and carefully as it presents itself rather than come to conclusions derived from deductive analysis. Bacon's views made him and ancestor to the British empiricism and a hero to the 20th century behaviorist B.F. Skinner who adopted Bacons point of view. Descartes was one of t......
