Legacy of Thomas Jefferson Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report
Thomas Jefferson was the third President of the United States. He bought Louisiana from France and sent Lewis and Clark on their expedition. He can be seen on the front side of a nickel and his famous home Monticello on the backside. Throughout his life, he achieved several things and is considered to be one of the greatest and most remembered presidents of America. However, he wished to be remembered as only three things: author of the Declaration of Independence, author of the Statute of Virginia for Religious Freedom, and Father of the University of Virginia.
Thomas Jefferson started his political career in 1769, as a part of the Virginia House of Burgesses. Even though he was regarded as a poor public speaker, he became known as a very brilliant writer. This gained him a place in the Continental Congress (Art). During the Second Continental Congress, the delegates decided that they were going to declare independence from Britain.
