Teens today explore new ways of enhancing their external appearance. They have switched from the old makeover routine to the modern plastic surgery that they believe will define their new looks. Nowadays more and more teens are searching for ways to become something that they are not. Plastic surgery has been increasing rapidly and many adolescents are searching for new ways to build their self-esteem. They see plastic surgery as their way to build it. Should teens have the right to alter their image when their bodies are still developing? Teens tend to have plastic surgery to fit in with their peers and fix their imperfections. Sarwer, Infield, Crerand state that, "Body image, defined as perceptions and attitudes toward one's own physical appearance, is the largest contributor to self-esteem and self-concept in children and adolescents" (304). Teenagers should not be allowed to undergo cosmetic surgery for several reasons. Many young teens are still developing both their state of mind and body.
