The idea that everyone believes in something is often regarded as a good thing. The problem lies in the fact that not everyone agrees and it can therefore stir negative results. Some people are afraid to stand for something, to freely stay true to their convictions. This refers back to Ka, a man who has changed his name to distance himself from his culture, and who also refuses to declare his faith in God, regardless of his doubts. He is a poet, sometimes too busy being poetic, as seen when he does nothing when a man, Recai Bey is being killed. This quote can be placed in almost every novel, being that it reflects the idea that all humans hold on to something in order to survive.
