Force and deadly force can be described in different ways. It can be used in different ways also. You shouldn't use any kind of force unless you have no choice and have to defend yourself. Depending on how much force and when you use force can determine if you will get in trouble by the law for it or not. Here are a few different times you can use force and be justified as long as you don't use too much force. Less than deadly force in Self-Protection means that you can use force to protect yourself if you are in danger from someone else. To use less than deadly force you need to make sure that is unlawful which means that the person is doing wrong and something against the law, necessity means that you have no choice but to use force to protect yourself and last reasonableness which is that you use just enough force to protect yourself, no more than that. Use just enough to make yourself safe from harm. An example of less than deadly force would be if someone tries to attack you with a stick then you have the right to take the stick away.
