When I begin to create a pattern it usually starts with an idea. When an idea comes, that is when I like to test it out on the keyboard. If the idea is such an unusual one, I will begin with a basic sine wave in order to find that unusual sound. On the other hand, there are times that I like to start off with a drum beat. I, being a drummer, find at times that starting off with a drum beat can be refreshing. Patching sequencers, filters, oscillators, and LFO's to each other, with the proper numeric value, so the right sound is achieved can be tricky at times-but not impossible! Once the sound is fully created, this is when music composition begins. This can be achieved in several ways. We first want to set the correct BPM, which stands for "Beats per minute". The BPM controls the tempo. This could be better understood by thinking of a metronome. Inside of all music production hardware and software is a digital metronome which plays out load so you can record, in sync, to the BPM.
