Susan Sontags' Notes on Camp was written in 1970 to define the term 'Camp' as it relates to art. She was the first writer to set out definitive parameters of what Camp art is and the sensibilities that can be associated with it. Her style of writing is that of jottings, which is states are more appropriate than an essay with its linear and organised argument. Jottings, she writes, are more suited to this 'particular fugitive sensibility.'(Sontag 1970, p227) Sontags writing highlights and explains in simple easy to read detail exactly what she considers Camp sensibility to be. Hilton Kramer, in his 1985 essay, Postmodernism: Art and Culture in the 1980s has a rather different opinion, he writes of Camp art and its influence on the Postmodernist movement being the down fall of Modernism. Kramer suggests that after the invaluable rise of Modernism and the impact it had on art and design throughout the 20th century has been thrown off course by the rise of the Postmodernist 'philistines'. He suggests the Postmodernists have corrupted the art world with the humour and parody of Campness......
