Family is a very important thing in life; it makes a person who she/he is. Gary Soto in his essay "Looking for Work" felt his family needed to change to improve. He used 1950's sitcoms to shape his ideas. However, from my own experience I never saw a need for my family to change or improve themselves. We valued each other for who we were, and we made time in our daily lives to be together. In the years after the depression and World War II, Americans experienced the nuclear family boom, otherwise known as the perfect family. This perfect picture contained a dad who worked, a mom who stayed home, and a couple of children. The media enforced this; most noticeably television shows that made people want to appear like this kind of family. These families were happy and without any problems. This perfect family, created by television sitcoms, made Gary Soto think that his family needed to change. As he says in his essay, "Looking for Work," "I had a nine-year-old vision of wealth that would save us from ourselves"(27). I disagree with his statement. I......
