What is the mind? Many people around the world question themselves about where and what exactly their mind is. There are a few different philosophies as to what the mind is and how it is used. 1- Dualism, a philosophy that explains that the mind is separate from the physical body. 2- Idealism, a philosophy that explains that the mind is all that exists, with no actual material or physical substances. 3- Materialism, a philosophy that that the mind is identical to the brain. Dualism According to Rene Descartes, the father of philosophy, the mind and the brain are two separate entities. This is the Dualism philosophy. Descartes explains the mind as something like a soul or spirit. He used the Euclidian method of deduction to explain what is true. Descartes stated that all things need to be doubted to find out what is true. Descartes wanted to find what exactly was undoubtedly true. He wanted to find something that could not be doubted.
