REVENGE IS A MAJOR THEME IN HAMLET . WHAT TECHNIQUES DOES SHAKESPEARE USE TO EXPLORE THIS IDEA? Shakespeare utilizes a variety of techniques throughout his play, Hamlet, in order to convey revenge as a major theme within the play. The overarching narrative structure of parallel plots is constantly present throughout the play, showing there is more than one instance of revenge occurring at one time. Hamlets character, shown through soliloquies and the narrative, constantly reflects upon the revenge he has for Claudius. The structure of the play exudes the theme of revenge, in particular the play within a play, which significantly demonstrates the revenge Hamlet has for his uncle. The parallel revenge of Laertes is also presented during the play through the means of characterization and language employed by Shakespeare. The characterization of Ophelia and Laertes strongly conveys the heavily placed theme of revenge.
