Skeletal System The skeletal system is the second largest system in the body. There are over 206 bones in the adult body . There are two parts to the skeletal system . Each part does it's own job. Both parts are important. The first part is the axial skeleton. Which basically consists of all the bones from your head to your shoulder. There are twenty-two bones in your face and skull! Eight bones hold and protect the skull. Fourteen of these bones are in your face. The maxilla and the mandible are among the bones in your face. The cervical vertebrae , or the neck is important to keep tour head attached to your body. The clavicle or shoulder girdle connects your arm to the rest of your body. There are many parts of the axial skeleton that many people could (and do) say are part of the second part of the skeletal system, the appendicular system.
