American ideals are about longing after youth, respect, power, money, opportunity, and beauty. Americans will go as far as possible to achieve the �American Dream� no matter what the expenditure. In the endeavor of achieving one or several of these American ideals, Americans have abandoned their self-control, values, and morals for an attempt to live the �American Dream.� Today, American society is lacking in morals and educated people, for the desire to be young has taken control of their lives and has consumed their morality and work ethic entirely. There is a sense of despair that surrounds adult identity. This helps explain why contemporary culture finds it difficult to distinguish between adulthood and childhood. Childishness is idealized for the simple reason that Americans cringe at the thought of living the alternative with maturity, responsibility, and commitment. These attributes are feebly acknowledged by American society in that such traits contradict the sense of impermanence that prevails over daily life.
