As a child, high school was a vague, distant world fashioned in the likeness of reruns of Saved by the Bell and Welcome Back, Kotter. Animosity was usually lacking and even the resident nerd got along with the quarterback. Homework seemed limited to fun group projects, the vice-principal was your best friend, and every problem and major social issue could be solved in a half-hour. It was not until I entered my freshman year that I realized how vastly different my own experiences were compared to the perfect realm that I had made high school into. I had always expected to do well in high school and get straight As. I consider myself a bright, hardworking, and conscientious student and never dreamed that I would face any large opposition in high school. I always imagined myself walking across the stage at graduation festooned in various cords and sashes denoting that I was the valedictorian, in the top 10%, a member of the high school elite. I certainly never expected that during my senior year I would be clawing my way to the top 10% in my graduating class as a result of my 9t......
