Introduction: Drug treatment courts provide a distinct forum for the application of therapeutic jurisprudence. The theory of therapeutic jurisprudence is founded on the notion that the legal rules and procedures promote the psychological and physical well being of people. Offenders in drug courts participate in several legal and treatment processes which are collectively aimed at producing positive changes for the offender and therefore society. �They are not merely courts assigned to hear exclusively drug cases in a traditional criminal case processing model. Instead, they implement and supervise long-term probationary sentences (or other extended bouts of compliance with the dictates of courts in non-criminal matters) for specially selected offenders whose non-violent criminality or other anti-social behavior is drug-driven and which is conditioned upon continued compliance with rigorous treatment plans.
