Report on The Heart of the Old Testament BIB 220 Brian Gault March 14, 2004 The book, The Heart of the Old Testament, written by Ronald Youngblood, seemed to be prepared for one purpose, to show the oneness of the entire Bible established in the Old Testament. Youngblood demonstrates the 9 basic themes found throughout the Scriptures. Those themes, monotheism, sovereignty, election, covenant, theocracy, law, sacrifice, faith, and redemption, are brought out in reference to the Old Testament with supporting scripture in the New Testament. The following is a summary of the themes. Throughout recorded history, most cultures that believed in a higher power. That higher power came in many forms. The one presented in the Old Testament is monotheism, the existence of the one God (Isaiah 45:22). Some cultures practiced different forms of polytheism (many gods), animism (all natural objects were alive and indwelt by one or more god-like spirits), henotheism, and monolatry (one primary god and other secondary gods ......
