I Have A Dream & The Civil Rights Movements Any book or article with any information about the civil rights movement will identify Martin Luther King Jr. Out of all the civil rights speakers he was the best. When racism in the U.S. was really at its worse, he was one of the few that stood up for what he believed in. Even though at first, black people cared little for his preaching, he kept on going. He kept staging little protests and sit-ins until he got what he wanted. Eventually more and more black people joined him in his protesting and after a while all African Americans were with him and were standing up. On August 28 1963 over 200,000 African Americans gathered in Washington D.C., for what is known as the march on Washington. There were many speakers that day but the one that everyone was waiting for was Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. when he recited his � Have A Dream� speech.
