Tragic Heroes
In the plays Julius Caesar and Oedipus the King there are characters that are considered to be tragic heroes. These two characters would include the noble Brutus and Oedipus. They are both tragic heroes, however they are two different kinds of tragic heroes and that is the major difference between them. Brutus is considered to be a Shakespearean tragic hero and Oedipus is a Greek tragic hero. According to Aristotle views a tragic hero must be an important or noble man who has a major flaw in their character (Hamartia) and because of this flaw they make an error in judgment that eventually causes their fall from greatness, and who must then suffer the consequences of his actions. This downfall from greatness is also another crucial part of being a tragic hero. Brutus and Oedipus demonstrate these attributes of a tragic hero perfectly.
