Tradesmen apprenticed young or inexperienced workers so they could eventually become skilled. There has been evidence shown that mentoring will improve the quality of work. During the Industrial Revolution, most trades were learned and carried on by apprentice. (Doreen, Johnson, Niday & Potts, 2000). It is in education that beginning teachers were expected to do the same job with the same results as teachers with twenty years of experience. New teachers need guidance and support through the start of their careers and therefore mentoring new teachers should be a priority for every school district. �By promoting observation and conversation about teaching, mentoring can help teachers develop tools for continuous improvement � (Felman-Nemser, 1996).
