Americas Promise: the Alliance for Youth It is important that as individual, we give back to our community. The best way to give back to the community is through volunteerism. Volunteering is truly a gift from the heart. I have chosen to do research on a non-profit organization, America�s Promise. Gen. Colin Powell founded America�s Promise in 1997 at the President�s Summit for America�s Future on April 27, 1997 in Philadelphia. Presidents Clinton, Bush, Carter, and Ford with First Lady Nancy Reagan representing her late husband, challenged the nation to make youth a national priority. Also attending were 30 governors, 100 mayors, 145 community delegations, dozens of prominent business leaders and several thousand concerned citizens. America�s Promise has created a diverse and growing alliance of more than 400 national organizations called partners. These partners make national commitments to fulfill one or more of the Five Promises. These organizations agree to expand existing youth programs or create new ones and hold themselves accountable by measuring their progress. Spanni......
