Nunna daul Tsuny Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

Nunna daul Tsuny is directly translated as “The trail where they cried”. Between 1838 and 1839 the Cherokee Indians, along with other tribes, were forced out of their own lands by the whites, which later came to be known as the Trail of Tears. These Indians had remarkably unfortunate but respectable lives. Indians are respected for enduring the suffering of their journey that was caused by the Federal Indian Removal Policy. The Indian’s cultural background is appreciated by many people in our nation today. In 1830, Andrew Jackson passed the “Indian Removal Act” into law. Chief Justice John Marshall proclaimed that the Cherokee Nation was self-governing, making the removal laws invalid. The Cherokee would have to agree to removal in a treaty. The treaty then would have to be approved by the Senate. In 1839, After the Indians between Michigan, Louisiana, and Florida were removed, they settled with the western Cherokee Indians in Oklahoma and established a united Cherokee government.
