Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder OCD stands for Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. But what does Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder mean? Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder is a type of anxiety disorder that causes someone to experience obsessive, unwanted thoughts, and to compulsively try to get rid of those thoughts. OCD is a medical brain disorder that causes problems in information processing. It is not a result of a �weak� or unstable personality. Obsessions are the recurring thoughts or impulses that are intrusive or inappropriate and that cause the sufferer anxiety. There are many different but very common obsessions. Such as: thoughts about contamination, when an individual fears coming in contact with germs, dirt, or �unclean� objects. Another one is persistent doubts of whether or not an individual turned off the an object like a stove or iron. Extreme need for orderliness is another very common obsession.
