There is a condition labeled attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (AD/HD) that begins to show up in children as young as early preschool (NIMH 1). AD/HD is a legitimate problem in need of treatment; however, this condition is largely over diagnosed due to parent and educator overexertion as well as physicians inconsistent diagnostics. The National Institute of Mental Health reports that an estimate of 3-5% of children suffer from AD/HD, which comes out to about two million children in the United States alone (1).
