AUTISM Autism appears in early childhood, usually before the age of three. �Autism is a pervasive developmental disorder characterized by impairments in three core symptom domains: language, social relatedness, and restricted patters of behavior� (Hollander, Phillips, and Yeh, 2003, p. 732). It is a neurological disorder that affects the brain. It is also four time prevalent in boys than girls. Autism shows no racial, ethnic or social discriminations. Family income, lifestyles and educational levels do not affect the chance of autism�s occurrence. �Only 1 in every 500 children will be affected� (Faraone, 2003, p.198). Children with this disorder also display repetitious body movements such as hand and arm flapping, rocking, unusual attachments to objects, and they resist any changes in their routines and surroundings. A child with this disorder seems to be in a world of their own. There are multiple differences in behaviors of infants with Autism and infants without this disorder (Hypothesis #1).
