Ladies and gentlemen of the jury: The defendant sitting before you today is no cold-blooded killer. She is accused of murdering her husband of twenty years, after carefully planning the incident first. Premeditated murder is a serious charge in which a person (i.e. murderer) must plan out the specific actions, which will be executed in order to kill another human being. In the case of the defendant, Minnie Wright, this would have included Mrs. Wright knowingly fixating a rope around her husband’s neck and tightening that rope for a period of time in the order to drain the life of the farmer. Along with the plan for homicide, she would have also had to come up with a plan of action to get rid of the body. Yet, when Mr. Hale came to the house, Mrs. Wright confessed to him that her husband was dead. Mr. Hale found the body untouched. Mrs. Wright had not attempted to remove the body, nor had she attempted to cover up the fact that her husband had died “of a rope around his neck” (191).
