Maya Angelou Is there a famous person in the world that you connect to? I have one her name is Maya Angelou. She is what this essay is based on. In this essay I will explain to you about her childhood, her adulthood, the awards she received, and my connection to her life. Maya Angelou was born with the name of Marguerite Johnson in 1928. She got her nickname �Maya� from her older brother Bailey which meant mine. When she was a young girl she moved to the country, rural town of Stamps Arkansas with her grandmother in the mid 1930�s. Also at the age of seven she got raped by her mother�s boyfriend. Soon after, her offender was found dead in and alley bye some of Maya's uncles. Maya was too traumatized to speak to anyone but her brother Bailey after her attack. It was four years before she would speak again. As you can see Maya Angelou�s life as a child was pretty tough. ......
