War is a powerful isolator War is a powerful isolator. Not only does war take lives and create vast dispute, but it can also separate families and seclude you from your surroundings. �We were in the war, too, but we were children, we were like our grandmother and grandfather, we didn�t have guns.� In the short story The Ultimate Safari by Nadine Gordimer, the narrator, a little girl, encounters the effects of war and isolation. The most obvious form of seclusion described is physical. The children were trapped inside their own house, confined because of the happenings around them. Although not as distinctly noticed mental and emotional play an extensive role. Because of the many deaths, the little girl and her sibling encounter, they are forced to battle the many feelings and emotions involved. This essay will attempt to portray how war creates isolation.
