Lynching is the process of putting people to death by hanging via mob action without legal sanction or due process of law. Current studies have shown that lynching is no longer present in the United States. However, lynching played an infamous role that generated change in American history, and although lynching is seen today as a negative approach to racism, the majority of the white population many years ago had a much different opinion about lynching. The views of lynching throughout the South in the late 1860s to the early 1920s forced African Americans to live inferior to white Americans by utilizing fear, intimidation and segregation that in turn, adversely affected the quality of life for many African Americans. The roots of lynching travel back to 1865 when the Civil War had just ended, causing many changes nationwide. Near the end of the Civil War, the Emancipation Proclamation was passed by the Supreme Court, declaring the African Americans freedom. These drastic changes in society brewed hope within the black community, and the expectation of the lifestyle for the former......
