The Lost Generation
The “lost generation” is a phrase coined by Gertrude Stein referring to those intellectuals, poets, artists, and novelists who expatriated themselves to Paris. These young adults searched for meaning, drank excessively, had love affairs and created some of the finest American literature to date. Among these English speaking authors who lived, as expatriates in Paris are Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Sherwood Anderson, and Gertrude Stein herself.
The “Lost Generation” is a term for young people who experienced the aftermath of World War 1. There are many terms for the huge group of young people affected. The most common ones are Roaring 20s Generation, Generation of 1914, and Génération au Feu, The Generation of Fire. These young individuals were born from 1883 to 1900, as their grandparents were the Gilded Generation, their parents the Progressive and children the G.I and Silent Generations.
