Martin Luther King Jr. I may get a lot of arguments from this statement, but I believe Martin Luther King to be one of the greatest men to have ever lived. However, most Americans do not truly know who he was. There is a federal holiday, postage stamps, and historical reference in textbooks, yet he has disappeared in plain sight. Most young people do not learn more about him other than he was a civil rights leader, he had a dream, and he was assassinated. Even King�s family wants to control the use of his words, for a fee. �It is criminal to have people working on a full-time basis and a full-time job getting part-time income,� (Dyson p.78). Martin Luther King Jr. answered a plea from local civil rights leaders to come to Memphis, Tennessee, to make public the striking sanitation workers, most of which were poverty level black workers. It was this statement that struck the nail with the hammer when the public realized King was very intelligent.
