Ophelia, daughter of Polonius and a lower noble, is the object of Hamlet�s affection. She is young and very beautiful, and Hamlet is very taken with her. However, Laertes, Ophelia�s older brother and Polonius, her father, are very concerned about her relationship with Hamlet. Because Hamlet is a Prince and Ophelia is not a very high noble, they fear for her well being and believe that there is no hope of a marriage in her love with Hamlet. Both her brother and her father give Ophelia their opinion and advice concerning her involvement with the Prince Hamlet. Laertes confronts Ophelia about Hamlet before he leaves for Paris. Being the older brother, he is very concerned about the outcome of Ophelia�s love for Hamlet. �Perhaps he loves you now/ and now no soil nor cautel doth besmirch/ The virtue of his will; but you must fear/ His greatness weighed, his will is not his own/ For he himself is subject to his birth� (I.3.15-18).
