George W. Bush: Negative Effects on the American Economy Free Essay, Term Paper and Book Report

For the past four years, America has faced an increasing deficit in the federal government. The election of George W. Bush in 2000 and again in 2004 has done damage to the economy in more ways than one. His taxation has made the poor get poor and the rich get richer. Though the economy was entering a recession when he took office, President Clinton left him with a surplus that should have funded a recovery. Also, President Bush wants to privatize social security, which will force drastic cuts in retirement benefits for American workers. Bush has had only a negative effect on the economy and will only dig us deeper into a ditch in the next four years. President Bush encourages what he calls an “ownership society”. This concept is very vague, and can mean many different things to different people. With the details he has given about the concept, I believe he means that he want to increase home ownership and offer a tax-free savings plan. This sounds like a good enough plan. But, this means there will be a huge reduction in investment and savings, including taxes on capital ......
