Prufrock’s path to unhappiness T.S Eliot creates an unhappy and somewhat melancholy mood in the poem “The Love song of J. Alfred Prufrock.” Prufrock is clearly dissatisfied with the way he has lead his life. He is in a constant struggle to seize the day, and make the most of life. His endless battle with time, his poor view of himself, and his lack of confidence towards women ultimately leads to his unhappiness. Alfred Prufrock is constantly worried about time, and the fact that he might or might not have enough time to figure out his life and make something of himself. In the poem, the themes of time’s passage and age continue to illustrate the unhappiness of Prufrock’s life. He wants to find value in the social environment in which he has lived his life. Time leads to Prufrock’s unhappiness because he keeps procrastinating. He never lives life to its fullest because he keeps thinking there will be time, when in fact his time is running out: “There will be time to murder and create, and time for all the works and days of hands that lift and drop a question on your pl......
